00:00:25 Are show books better than seeing images on the internet? Eric has about a dozen show books that he uses extensively.

00:01:00 Eric was a member of Bay Island Bonsai and shows one of the albums from 2009. Two of the trees will be on display (13 years later!) at the Pacific Bonsai Expo.

00:02:00 Eric discusses how trees can evolve over long periods of time.

00:02:20 – A Kokufu album from a show that Eric attended in person. The Kokufu show is in Ueno park in Tokyo, Japan and is one of the premier shows in the world.

00:03:10 – A Kokufu-prize winning Japanese black pine that Eric was enamored of when he attended the show.

00:03:40 – At the Pacific Bonsai Expo we encourage you to take photos and share them online. The PBE will offer a commemorative album that is on sale now!

00:04.00 – Eric also has an album from the shohin (trees under 8″) show called “Gafu-Ten” which happens in Japan annually. The album contains a lot of examples of good shohin trees and how they are displayed in combination. Eric also uses them to see how others pair stands, trees and pots.

00:05:01 Eric shares a page that he has used frequently – he used the photo to re-create a stand that is pictured. At other times he uses these albums as a reminder of the conventional pairing of stands and trees or trees and pots. They also make a great reference for how two trees can be used in one display.

00:06:14 – Some trees will be shown in fall foliage at the PBE, while others will be bare, all of which will be captured in the 2022 commemorative expo album, which is available for Pre-Order today!
