Decandling season, normally late spring through early summer season, can entail loads greater than pushing aside spring development from pine bonsai. It’s also a massive time for pushing aside additional needles, gentle cutback, and even wiring. Since the timing of the decandling is of some significance, I normally decandle my trees at the appointed occasions and then fit in no matter needle pulling, cutback and wiring I will be able to arrange. For me, which methodology decandling on the weekends and pulling needles after work.
In preparation for a most up to the moment Bay Island Bonsai workshop, I decandled the weakest tree in my red pine forest 10 days sooner than the workshop (look “Decandling season arrives“). I decandled the relaxation of the spring development as deliberate in the workshop.

After decandling
To additional decrease the tree’s vigor, I began pushing aside excess needles. I left former areas – and the previous tree on the left – by myself, and removed all nonetheless a handful of needles from the stronger shoots. The discontinuance result’s a nice bare-having a see tree.

Plucked branches
I’m doing the same part for a ramification of my pines. After decandling, I pull needles. And if I have time earlier than summer season buds assemble, I’ll wire as many branches as I will be able to.

Clearly, I have yet to decandle, to no longer mention pluck, to no longer mention wire, my smaller pines. I’ll decandle these in early July and then pluck and wire till the summer season buds assemble. And if I don’t discontinuance the total plucking and wiring, I will be able to frequently wait till plunge.
