Let’s learn about bonsai!
I have never seen what it takes to look after one of these mini trees. Luckily I’m making new friends in Kyoto and they’re opening my eyes to subject of bonsai tree maintenance.
This beautiful little craetion requires care and attention and are a lot of fun to look after. In this video we specifically work on a transplant of a mini mikan ‘orange clementine tree’.
Yes that’s right. It’s a mini orange tree that grows mini oranges!
I’m in kyoto now which is self-evident from my last video and if you haven’t caught it i’ll put it in a link up top it’s a cool crossroads of how kyoto is both urban and natural and why that makes it so enjoyable and unique now that i’ve passed that i want to make cool videos of people doing cool things and the cool new friend i have is robin and she has an interest in bonsai so today she’s going to show us how you would transplant a bonsai because there are a couple of different methods to do so let’s check it out [Music] i’m robin and i work at garden lab and today we’re going to be transplanting this kokedama we’ve already taken uh the moss off so koke is moss and so it’s essentially a moss ball and this is a really small mikan or a little orange clementine tree and last year it had little tiny clementines all over it that didn’t produce them this year and because i think we’d been neglecting it so we need to give it some fresh soil and we’re gonna wrap it in new mossy [Music] and so then i’ll make sure this gets all like separated well [Music] [Music] we’re gonna go a bit off-road [Music] apply it maybe underneath so put it like [Music] [Music] this [Music] well that was a lot of fun something i’ve never done before thank you very much robin um i was wondering as we did that obviously you just didn’t get struck by a lightning bolt know how to do bonsai what are you using to teach yourself so as a beginner i’ve been doing a lot of research online and one of my favorite websites was bonsai mio it’s mostly in japanese but they have lots of pictures and you can actually master the ship internationally but they sell a lot of bonsai equipment as well as have lots of articles as well about how to plant them how to take care of them as well cool all right well i’ll get that link from you i’ll put it down in the uh the description below guys so you can check it out thank you very much for tuning into this video like subscribe all that great stuff hit the bell notification thank you once more robin thank you and i will catch you guys in the next video that’s all for [Music] so i’m now the chopstick to get the soil in between the roots which i’ve exposed using the chopstick earlier to get all the oil soil out of them
